Main Street Burgers, Los Gatos
Posted by Lauren
Nicole and I took our dad out to dinner last night. This weekend is Father’s Day and I guess we wanted to get a head start on the father/daughters action!
We ate at Main Street Burgers (20 S. Santa Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, CA), a custom burger shop with a streamlined diner feel.
MSB uses Niman Ranch natural beef (no hormones or antibiotics). I used a LivingSocial deal so my bill was less than $5!
I ordered the Side Street Original ($4) – dill pickles and signature sauce on an egg bun. All burgers come with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. I opted for sautéed mushrooms for an additional $1.
My dad ordered the Main Street Original with American cheese ($8) – dill pickles and signature sauce on an egg bun (along with the lettuce, tomato, and red onion).
Nicole chose the Grilled Chicken and Avocado ($8.50) – grilled chicken breast and fresh sliced avocado, carrots, cucumbers, and homemade croutons on a bed of organic greens.
Nicole was about to say “no chicken,” but I stopped her, knowing I would grab the protein for tomorrow’s lunch. She loved the combo of avocado + cucumbers and insisted I take a bite. It was good, but I’m glad I ordered their burger. BTW, that is a scoop of avocado mush, not “sliced avocado”!
The meat on my burger was juicy and cooked just the way I like it. I asked for the special sauce on the side and sriracha on the bun. My burger came out with sriracha on the side and special sauce on the bun (aka opposite of what I wanted), but I just did a little schmearing to fix it.
The egg bun was fantastic! I think egg buns are beautiful. The bun reminded me of the white brioche bun from Slater’s 50/50 in Anaheim. We went there for Kerry’s birthday and their burgers are sexayyyy. Burgers were the perfect meal after completing a mud run dressed as planets.
Before we got all muddy!
The only picture I could find of Slaters 50/50… I guess the burgers were so good we ate them at record speed!
ps. if you ask nicely I bet Kerry will write a guest blog post about her birthday!
Anyways…
The three of us shared an order of 50/50 fries ($4) – garlic fries and sweet potato fries.
You can pick from those two, onion rings, and Idaho fries. We made the right choice!
A sweet potato fry as long as my head!
The sweet potato fries were really crispy (not as good as The Counter’s though) and Main Street was very generous with the garlic (I saw them ladle it on from a bucket).
They offer milkshakes and ice cream made with Treat ice cream, “a premium 16% butterfat ice cream hand-made in the Santa Clara Valley since 1948.” Talk about local! :) Milkshakes come in flavors like banana, coffee, malt, mango, oreo, pb, and the plain: choc, strawb, and vanilla.
Main Street Burger offers frequent buyer cards, has an eClub, and hosts a lot of local fundraising events.
I rarely crave burgers and while I loved their egg bun, I do not know if I would go back. The problem is that there are so many other restaurants in Los Gatos that I think are worth a shot and this one didn’t hypnotize me. You know what did? Los Gatos Cafe! When can we go back??
To finish off the night, Nicole and I celebrated her USC acceptance with fro yo even though we were SO STUFFED. But when life-changing events happen, you have to celebrate no matter what. Am I right?

Question: What sort of events call for “let’s celebrate with ice cream!”?
I’d say birthdays, new jobs, umm… waking up? haha. Anytime, really!
