A Bowl Of Summer Strawberries, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Jobs all sit down for dinner at a local taqueria. They run up quite the tab, between bowls of salsa, enchiladas, and chiles rellenos. They all offer to cover the tab, but the Bowl Of Summer Strawberries ends up with the bill. The Bowl Of Summer Strawberries can handle it though – because it’s B.O.S.S. in California.

Nicole says that the number one industry in California is agriculture. Hollywood and the entertainment industry? Nope. Tech companies? No sir. We dominate on the artichoke fields, the vineyards, and, yup, the rows of strawberry plants up and down highway 101.

This salsa will transport you to the central valley of California. It is full of summer flavors as well and is great on tacos, with crisp tortilla chips, or heck, try it on sliced, toasted baguette!

California Summer Salsa

Adapted from Jessica’s Strawberry Avocado Salsa

Ingredients
1/2 an avocado
1 medium tomato
4 large strawberries
1 white peach
Juice of 1/2 a lime
1/8 t salt
1/4 t freshly ground pepper

Directions

Chop the avocado, medium tomato, strawberries, and peach.

Let the flavors mingle in the fridge for about 20 minutes before digging in!

Chicken Tacos with California Summer Salsa

Kyle and I enjoyed the summer salsa with corn tortilla chips from Whole Foods while preparing chicken tacos. Kyle decided to make the taco fillings with toasted rice, black beans, and chicken. He added white onion, enchilada sauce, and green, yellow, and red bell pepper strips.

I think Kyle puts enchilada sauce into his cereal bowls…. seriously, he loves the stuff! I’m glad he was in charge of the fillings because I have issues preparing chicken. My chicken = unpalatable. His chicken: savory.

While we made dinner, we watched the A’s beat the Giants – it’s Battle of the Bay weekend over here and Lincecum wasn’t his normal freakishly good self :( Walking Coco Crisp after four pitches at the top of the seventh? C’mon Timmy!!

I topped my tacos with shredded lettuce, greek yogurt, and fresh cilantro. Heaps of tortilla chips were consumed with leftover taco filling as well!

We finished our night watching part of The Illusionist, but I totally fell asleep 1/2 way through. (BTW Jessica Biel looks so different!!) Kyle woke up at the crack of dawn to go on a rafting trip of the South Fork of the American River. I decided to stay home this weekend and save the $$ for my birthday weekend in Yosemite next weekend. So responsible!

I stole another one of Kyle’s blueberry Eggo waffles and topped it with syrup + chopped strawberries before heading down to San Jose…. more coming later!

Question: What’s the strangest way you’ve used salsa?

Tomatoes, onions, peppers… the ingredients are so simple, and yet I’m totally uninspired when it comes to using the dip in more unique ways!

Question: Do you know what the #1 industry in your state is?

Part of me still doesn’t believe Nicole haha…
