Treadmill 10K and Dance Camp Stalking
Posted by Nicole
Wow, is it really only 3:00 pm? Today has been a busy day!
I woke up bright and early (5:30 am) to meet a friend for coffee before he headed to work. I do love sleeping in, but I figured one early morning wouldn’t kill me ;) And, waking up early gave me the opportunity to hit the gym!
I fueled up with a piece of vegan zucchini bread and a Starbucks tall black coffee with a shake of cinnamon.
I hungout on a treadmill for 61 minutes and completed 6.37 miles. I split my running into three sets:
- 3.1 miles
- 1.5 miles
- 0.7 miles
My running totaled to 5.3 miles with an average pace of ~8:20 per mile
My overall pace (with running and incline walking) was 9:34 per mile.
My running shoes worked SO well, I love them. I had a little knee pain after running, but I don’t know if that’s because of the shoes or not. A little icing helped and I was good to go! After showering, getting ready, eating banana protein oat bran (highlight of my morning), and drinking LOTS of water, my friend Jackie picked me up to head to Santa Cruz.
Jackie, Christina, Gianni, and I drove 45 minutes to UC Santa Cruz to watch the closing ceremonies for our high school dance team. I felt so old watching them dance; it’s hard to believe I was a part of the same dance camp just two years ago! It was fun to be a groupie/stalker, especially because I didn’t have any pre-performance stress :)
Congrats to Auti, who won “Miss Super Sensational” – basically the “best performer/dancer at camp” award.
Congrats to Katie, who won “First Place in Drill Down” – I won this medal when I was a senior, and I was so happy that a girl from our team won and carried on tradition! I definitely shouted “YEAH KATIE!!! REPRESENT!” when she won.
After saying our goodbyes to the team and coach, we headed back to San Jose.
But first, we picked up a late lunch. I grabbed some food in Scotts Valley at Taqueria Los Gallos, while the other three got some food at the neighboring Wendy’s.
“Vegetarian Tostada: with rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce & salsa $5.00″
The owner certified that the rice and whole pinto beans were “100%” vegan. I ordered the plate minus the cheese and sour cream and plus some fajita veggies! He swiped my card and even addressed me by my name – “thank you Nicole!” Great service :)
However, there wasn’t any rice and the “whole pinto beans” turned out to be refried beans. Kinda weird, but whatever, I rolled with it… and it tasted great. The fajita mushrooms and onions mixed so well with the guacamole and crunchy tostada shell. Hit.the.spot.
Now I’m back at home hanging out with my mom because she is working from home today. Later tonight, I’m meeting up with some other previous dance team members! We are going to grab dinner and have a great time catching up.
I hope your Monday is going well!
Q4U: Did you play a high school sport? Do you ever go visit your old high school?
I loved dance team, but I never played a “real” sport. I don’t typically like visiting my high school because it’s kind of uncomfortable seeing old teachers. I always worry they won’t remember who I am…. and that always leads to awkward conversations.

Still loving the shoes? I LOVE mine and they are no longer new, you’ll continue to love ‘em! :)
