I’ve said many times before that I want to “hop on the half marathon train.”

Last night, I hopped on!

Lauren and I are both registered for the Hollywood Half Marathon that will take place on April 7, 2012.

It’s official!

I’m so excited for the race– there are lots of *special* parts about the race, so I know it will be an extremely memorable (and very slow) first half marathon.

Seriously though, the course map looks awesome!  The race begins and ends near Universal Studios.  Miles 4-6 go down Sunset Blvd, and Miles 7-9 go down Hollywood Blvd.

At the end of the race, finishers (hopefully I’ll be one of them) are greeted by a red carpet and whisked away in limos to attend the post race celebration!

Although it looks like a blast, I know that I have to get to work!  I’m confident that I am strong enough to get through 2+ hours of cardio, but NOT if it is all running.  I think my goal finish time will be around 2:15, considering my 10K time is about an hour.  Lauren will be the one waiting for me at the finish, so we will switch roles and she’ll be my photographer at the finish line!

I’m going to start a training plan once I’m in the “groove” of school.

And now the countdown begins!!!

In other news, my mom woke me up at 8 AM this morning.  No, my mom doesn’t still wake me up in the morning… Turns out our dog Mason was not looking healthy.  When I saw Mason wasn’t being his normal self (read: jumping all around, devouring his food as soon as it’s poured), I knew he needed to go to the vet.  His tail was tucked under his hind legs, and his face, chest, and front limbs were all twitching.

(Sidenote: The vet’s office is soooo cute, it even has a white picket fence.  Can I live there?  Ok, nevermind, too many animals.)

My mom thought he might have been bitten by something while he was asleep in his kennel.  The doctor eventually checked him out, and decided that he might have slipped a disc in his neck or upper spine.  We left the vet about an hour later with some anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant pills.

Luckily, Mason looked a lot better by the time we made it home.  He ate his food, ate the pills, and is now just hanging in the backyard with his sis.  I can tell he is “trippin’ out” now that he is all drugged up… it’s cute, in a really sad way ;)

Oh hey, Roger Sterling.

After the morning trip to the vet, all returned back to normal.  I just made my protein-packed bowl-of-awesome and now I’m watching some more episodes of Mad Men on Netflix.  I only have two episodes left, tear.  I’m enjoying the lazy life while I can, considering I only have about a week until I’m busy with college!!!

I hope you all have a great Monday!

Q4U: Any half marathon training plans that you suggest?

Q4U: If you have ever run a half marathon, how was it?!!! Am I doomed?

  1. Yeeeeuhhhhh g-frand!!! You are going to rock it!! I ran my first one in May, it was amazing. Hard, but amazing. you will do great!!!!! <3

  2. I LOVED running my half. It was the fitness magazine all womens half, which was super enjoyable and I ran in April and at least in NYC the weather was perfect. I got a customized plan with the runners world coach and I followed it to the T. I felt really well prepared and did a lot better than I expected. Plus you have plenty of time!

  3. Nicole, you’ll do great! I can’t wait to be your photographer :)

I ran my first half when I was a 2nd year in college too

  4. You’re gonna rock it out, I am sure! If you can jump onto the vegan train hardcore for 30 days no sweat, you’ll def have the dedication to own this half!

My recommendation, as a never-ran-anything-ever gal, is dress like a celebrity for that limo ride afterward!!

  5. Ah I’m so inspired! It will be very cool to follow this! Good for you :)

  6. I love love love half marathons. Can I come live with you and do that one too? HA. It looks like so much fun seriously. I want to live on the west coast. My biggest advice is, don’t fret if you can’t get your run in every single day but always try and get your long run in weekly. It is by far the most important.

  7. PS: Any advice you can always ask me. :)
