Yes, it is Friday, November 4th.
Yes, it seems like ages ago since Halloween.
Yes, I’ve been slacking on the posts.
Sorry.

Forget all of that and get ready for HaSLOween PART TWO!! Did you read Part ONE?

Where did we leave off?

Oh, right, at the Cal Poly Tailgate Oktoberfest!

Lots. And. Lots. Of. Fun.

After a few hours of beer tasting and shenanigans, we split up. Half of us went home and the other half went to the Cal Poly football game. While walking back to the hotel, I somehow missed this moment, but I’m so happy it was caught on Jac’s camera!

I am also glad that the picture below showed up on Facebook. It helped jog my memory to a foggy, bathroom-using, AOII back-house moment. I believe my words were “oh don’t worry, I’m an AOII” LOL

Pose. And Pose.

So, I bet you’re wondering what everyone dressed up as, right?

Here is the not at all funny part: WE FORGOT TO TAKE A GROUP PICTURE. What is sad, is the fact that we were a part of a GROUP costume. The theme? CANDYLAND!!!! If I could turn back those wrinkly hands of Father Time, I would wind back to Saturday night at about 1:30 am, location: Tonita’s Mexican Food, and force a stranger to take our picture. Oh well, such is life.

Here’s the best group (5 of 12!) picture we have:

And here are a few more from the hotel:

My Candyland character: Mr. Mint. There weren’t any pictures of me, head-to-toe, in my costume. Boo :( But here’s the next best thing (SLASH the ONLY thing)

I can’t find pictures of Clay and his girlfriend Sean. Darn. They were Snoop Dogg and Katy Perry from her candyland-esque California Gurls video. Another couple costume? Jake and Krizia dressed up as Steve from Blue’s Clues and Dora from Dora the Explorer; cute, huh?

And some photos from Jake’s house/downtown:

Can anybody guess what Andrew dressed up as? He is in the bottom, right photo in the collage above.

On Sunday morning we recovered with San Luis Obispo’s #1 Restaurant…

Firestone Grill
1001 Higuera Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401
WebsiteYelp

Known for their tri-tip sandwiches, Firestone’s has likely been the busiest SLO restaurant since it opened back in the 90s. They have an order at the counter set-up, a few burger/sandwich varieties, terrific salads, bbq options (chicken, ribs, dogs), and even tacos (huh, didn’t know that!).

They make my favorite fries in the ENTIRE world. Never leave Firestone’s without an order of fries. It is also one of the top three places in SLO to catch a sports game, with its giant projector TVs, supplemental HD screens, and great bar area (with local brews on tap!)

My order: Steak Cobb Salad – leaf lettuce, red onion, red bell pepper, tomato, bleu cheese, bacon, and chopped tri-tip.

Plus, a million fries.

And, a million smiles :)

“Go Niners!”

And then I peaced out to get froyo from the place that started it all:

Bali’s Frozen Yogurt
949 Higuera Street
Yelp

If you went to Cal Poly/SLO BEFORE 2008 (and you don’t have problems with dairy), you have likely had Bali’s Frozen Yogurt. When I was in high school, we toured SLO and many people suggested Bali’s as a place to grab a sweet treat. When I first walked in (circa 2003 – that’s EIGHT years ago!), I was like: “wait, I can serve MYSELF?!!?! And I can mix flavors? And I can put any topping I want in this cup, right here??! What? No way!”

This was the FIRST self serve frozen yogurt establishment, I’m sure of it. But anywho, after months and months of eating at froyo shops up in the Bay Area, my Bali’s cup sort of shocked me. This stuff tasted different, in a REALLY REALLY good way, almost like whipped frozen yogurt.

The point of this little tangent is to encourage any SLO visitors to hit up Bali’s, not the fancy-schmancy new guy in town: Yogurt Creations. “Yo-Tions,” as it is called on the “street” is a cleaner, less wholesome version of Bali’s. While in SLO: support the originator, not the snazzy copycat. Cool? Thanks!

Question: Are you watching football on Sunday? Any other amazing weekend plans? Still recovering from Halloween weekend?

p.s. This was me, at work, on Monday:

Go big or go home, right??

  1. I love the Candyland themed costumes!!!! Awesome!

  2. I miss SLOOOOOOOO

  3. Candyland is such a great idea for a theme! I’ll have to file that one away and use that in the future. I’m not spending sunday watching football – it’s the NYC Marathon!!

  4. That’s an awesome theme and I love the blushing cheeks haha! No one dressed up at my office this year, boooo!

  5. What a cute idea to do a group theme costume- and Candyland! How fun! I’m with you on being behind too- I have yet to recap Halloween as well! Oops! And haha I have a similar frozen yogurt story! There was a place in Sacramento when I grew up called Mocchi and it was the first tart frozen yogurt that anyone had heard of! I got on board very early on (as I also did with Pinkberry) and everyone used to think I was crazy for liking the stuff! And now everyone’s obsessed… which means, that we are both TRENDSETTERS… that’s right, I said it :)
