Rangoon Restaurant, Palo Alto + 49ers
Posted by Lauren
Greetings from San Jose International Airport!
I caught the flight bug over the weekend (helicoptery fun times!) so I decided to get out of town today. Well, not really. The Global Sales Org kickoff is this week – that means every sales-related person, from nearly every office, will come together for a few days… I can’t wait to put faces to email addresses!
Speaking of work….. check out this fortune I received at Saturday’s Burmese dinner with Kyle:
Close friends + family reading this know how important this fortune is to me. Let’s cross our fingers it rings true! (p.s. did anybody ever hear the rumor that for a fortune to come true, you need to eat the slip of paper? I definitely ate a couple fortunes when I was in middle school because of it!)
About that dinner…. Kyle and I returned to Palo Alto after a day in the San Francisco skies and chose to eat at:
Rangoon Restaurant

I love tea leaf salads. So far my favorite Bay Area Burmese place is Sweet Mango in Willow Glen, but I’m down to experiment!
We ordered:
- Tea Leaf Salad
- Pumpkin Prawn
- Burmese Curry Chicken and Potato
- Brown Rice
The tea leaf salad was good, but not great. They use fermented tea leaves, which produce a more bitter taste than normal. I was disappointed that they didn’t toss all the components together table-side (that’s the norm).
The pumpkin prawns was good, but not great. The shrimp seemed puny. The kabocha squash was definitely the best part. We scraped that puppy clean (strange/creepy metaphor, whatever).
The chicken and potatoes was good, but not great. Are you seeing a pattern here? This dish was too salty. Maybe a case of MSG?
All in all, I don’t think I’ll return to Rangoon. Their menu has a stronger Chinese influence than Thai influence – not my cuppa tea. However, the company was great :)
After dinner we made a trip to Safeway to pick up beer for the night’s festivities and I saw this awesome soda display:
A night of quarter and card games…. Jacks n Fives is way easier than Hockey. Unless you are Jeremy!
Shoot, time to board!
On Sunday a group of us went to Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley to watch the 49er game and enjoy $1 Sundays. ($1 entry/beer/hot dogs/horse racing bets).
We had fun, despite the loss!
I would write more, but then the plane would leave without me….. and I’m not proofreading either!!!!!!
See ya!

I was rooting for the 49ers (because I’m a Ravens fan and I wanted at least one Harbaugh to make it to the Super Bowl!). So sad they both loss though.
A Harbaugh family match-up would have been so cool! Maybe next year?? *crosses fingers*
I hope that you are having a good time at the sales meeting! I would love to meet some of my counterparts in NYC– it’d be nice to have a face to go with a name! And mmm I love thai food! Points for presentation but not for taste apparently!
hahah exactly! the kabocha squash looked great across the room, we had to order!
