It’s About Time

Last week I did a lot of stupid things that kept me from getting over my cold/cough/mystery sickness. I ran a lot, went out with Lauren & friends a lot, and didn’t sleep nearly enough.
This weekend, I managed to do a lot of fun things and finally start feeling healthy again.
I spent Friday with my friend Hanah doing what we do best- shopping and eating. Our original plans to shop at an outdoor mall were spoiled when LA decided to STORM. It was full on thunder, lightning, and downpour, so we ended up going to the Beverly Center instead.
Before we left, Hanah’s mom made us matzah pizzas. Matzah + pizza sauce + lots of shredded cheese = delicious!
Our trip to the mall was a great success. Good thing I had gift cards because I got a lot more than I had planned. On the way home, Hanah gave me a tour of Rodeo Drive. It was surprisingly empty, and that probably had something to do with the weather.
Back at her house, we had dinner with her older brother and his friend. It was all “Passover-friendly,” but it was still tasty!
It was great to have a home-cooked meal of soup, salad, and a veggie omelette (her mom made me an omelette because I don’t eat meat/brisket). Like I said a while ago, Hanah’s mom is the coolest. The coconut macaroons at dessert stole the show meal.
We drove back to school and I went to bed pretty early so I would be rested for the Nike 10K.
On Saturday, I ran the race, quickly showered, and then it was off to a USC football game! Okay, okay, not a real football game, but it was fun nonetheless. It was a spring practice game that split the football team in two parts to play each other.
It was great to be back in a sea of cardinal and gold, but I missed the student section and the sense of ruthless competition. Can’t wait till Fall 2012 :)
Saturday night, I went out to a late dinner at Cheesecake Factory with friends, and then called it a night. (Hear that Mom? I didn’t go out Friday OR Saturday night.)
Sunday was a great day- summed up by the Jersey Shore tagline “GTL.” I switched it up a bit though, Tan –> Gym –> Laundry.
I woke up early (8 AM, FOR NO REASON), had a lot of cereal, reworked our Races page, caught up on some TV, and then fell asleep for about an hour. When I woke up, I decided to continue the lazy trend and soak up some rays on the roof.
Not too bad of a view! The weather was perfectly sunny and breezy. Lauren is tanning in Costa Rica, I’m jealous, and I wanted in on the fun ;)
(Speaking of Lauren… She is having a BLAST! She doesn’t have clear internet connection, but sometimes it’s good to be disconnected. Here are a couple of her pictures:
In her words… “so day 1 – travel from Miami, dinner, out dancing. Day 2 – $150 excursion of horseback riding, tubing thru river (so fun!!), zip lining 1.5 hr trip 1-way then stopped at local bar for food and drinks on way back, then back at hotel and I went to bed. Day 3 – beach day near our hotel, left at 3 for new hotel which is more secluded and resorty.” I can’t wait till to read her recaps!)
After the tanning, I ate some lunch and ventured to the gym. I ran 4 slowwww miles on the treadmill. The good news: my left foot’s tendons are feeling SO much better. The bad news: my right knee hurts if I run anything more than three miles. Oh well, I’ll just keeping taking it sort of easy.
Now I’m catching up on homework, finally watching the first episode of Mad Men Season 5, and doing some laundry.
Even though it was a low-key weekend, it was just what I needed. And I can finally breathe clearly! It’s about time…

Q4U: If you were injured, would you rather…?
a. – take a few consecutive days off, and heal more quickly
b. – run slow and easy for a few days, but take longer to heal
I’m guessing you know my choice.

Oh goodness, I’m chomping at the bit for more Costa Rica info!! I just booked my stay/hotel for mid-June in Costa Rica, and am eager for mental pre-gaming for a trip of my own!!
A few things:
a) macaroons will ALWAYS steal EVERY show/meal.
b) TGL, GTL, as long as there’s sun involved, I’m happy.
c) I’d definitely rather just take time off and heal faster. I’ve seen far too many people get re-injured “taking it easy” working out after getting hurt!

I’m glad you’re starting to feel better! Such a bummer about your knee, but at least the foot is getting better! As for the question, it depends! Last week I chose A so that I could race, but if I didn’t have a race I’d much rather do B!

Good for you for resting this weekend! It sounds like that’s exactly what your body needed and consequently what mine did too! Hope we both are feeling much better asap! And aww I love the Beverly Center!! Such a great mall! And it sounds like Lauren is having an awesome time in CR! I can’t wait to hear all about it!
