Gyro Squared!

gyro gyro palo alto

Last night I went on a lovely dinner date in downtown Palo Alto. We ate at Gyro Gyro, a Mediterranean restaurant with the best lamb wraps I’ve ever ordered. I love trying new restaurants and new dishes, but at this place there is no question about it: I have to have the lamb wrap. The beauty is really in the simplicity of it all.

The lavash bread is just the right thickness, the ratio of meat to lettuce/tomato is perfect, and the tahini sauce is light and runny (in a good way). Each table comes with a red squirt bottle full of red spicy sauce. Between the two of us, we emptied half the bottle!

We also split a vegetarian combo plate – eggplant salad, hummus, dolma, greek salad and pita bread.

The best thing about Gyro Gyro is it’s location! Ladies and gentleman, meet Gyro Gyro’s next door neighbor…

Yogurtland!!!

We brought the fro yo back to his place and I ate it as slowly as humanly possible. My bowl of almond midnight mocha, taro, and peanut butter cookies frozen yogurt totally hit the spot. We ended our night with the Lakers’ loss, the Giants’ loss, and the loss of a healthy living contestant on Next Food Network Star. Shameful night.

On the fitness front, I avoided running yesterday to give my lower calf a rest before Sunday’s half marathon in Portland. I completed LiveFit day 17′s chest and triceps, 30 minutes on the bicycle, and an awesome core workout inspired by Fitnessista’s recent plank post:

7 minute plank exercises

I’m going to repeat this one!

G-Chat Gems

My friend Fran (remember her guest post?) sends me great web links every now and then via g-chat so I thought I’d share a few with you:

1. Cal Poly 1950s Letterman Jacket from the online vintage store Nasty Gal. I LOVE this, but hate the $250 price tag. How much does it cost to make your own letterman jacket?

2. She also links me to killer dance videos.

Reasons for you to watch that one:
A. Kangaroos
B. Australia’s Got Talent finalist
C. Spoons!

3. Another dance video, this one of a totally different genre. Brilliant!

4. When it comes to music, we occasionally talk about Spotify. Yesterday, however, she pinged me with this:

My friend from high school, Laura, teamed up with Kyle to produce a cover of Maroon 5′s Payphone. She currently lives with Krizia up in the city (we all hung out on St. Pat’s Day) and has a lot of talent. Check it out by clicking the chat box!

Question: Are you that person on facebook/twitter/chat/etc that links to hilarious .gifs and unique youtube videos? Any recent ones catch your eye?

I heard good things about something called “Harvard Sailing Team” … it did not disappoint!

  1. This post really put me off, and I couldn’t figure out why. Then I realized, it was the pictures of all the tasty foods…. probably I digested a big gust of wind on my way to work, earlier.

  2. Oh my gosh. My family and I are obsessed with Yogurtland too! I haven’t had gyros since becoming vegetarian, but it’s surprisingly one of the few things I really miss on occasion. Yours look great :)
