Throw Your Hands Up At Me

All the women who are independent
Throw your hands up at me
All the honeys who makin’ money
Throw your hands up at me
If I wanted the watch you’re wearin’, I’ll buy it
The house I live in, I’veboughtrented it
The car I’m driving, I’ve bought it
I depend on me, I depend on me
Destiny’s Child throwback tune to set the mood as I unveil the good news…
I’m moving!
Over the weekend, Kevin sent me a Craigslist posting for a place in Mountain View (the town I work in). While I was busy in SF, Kevin and his friend Tejo checked out the three bedroom rental and made friends with the landlord.
Let me just say that places in MV go fast! With Google and Microsoft and LinkedIn and all the tech/internet startups, there are way more renters than rental units; supply and demand working never in your favor.
Note to self: Watch Hunger Games one of these days!
Since the boys really liked the place, we decided to all meet for lunch at a tasty spot in downtown Mountain View, Gyros House:
I ordered the gyro salad and just have to say that their gyro meat was fabulous. Possibly better than my Palo Alto favorite, Gyro Gyro. They don’t have huge bottles of hot sauce so that’s a bummer. Other than that, I think this might be my new favorite gyro place! Thanks for showing me the light, Kevin!
I wish the grilled chicken I made for my lunches this week tasted like that lamb meat – delicate, salty, moist. Unfortunately, my chicken is icky. I hate wasting food, but it really just needs to go in the trash. Erg.
After a quick lunch (and a much needed introduction to Tejo), we drove by the house so I could give it the final seal of approval. Remember how I looked for an apartment about a month ago up in San Francisco and a few places in Palo Alto? On Craigslist and PadMapper, literally nothing pops up in my price range and my desired neighborhood. I am not too picky about the house or apartments I find online, but I would prefer to know my roommates beforehand. This place solves nearly all the prereqs!
- closer to work! less than a 10 minute commute, no highway
- affordable!
- i like the roommates! i’ve known Kevin since freshman year of college and Tejo seems like a great guy (plus they can build stuff!)
- room for all my kitchen supplies ;)
- biking distance from a “downtown” – both Mountain View and Palo Alto are bike accessible!
The front door isn’t the prettiest thing in the world, but I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter in my life.
If you would have told freshman year Lauren she’d be living with Kevin one day, she wouldn’t believe it!
Happy Tuesday, folks! Other than Apartment Therapy, any cool decorating websites or blogs you could recommend?
-Lauren

Congratulations on your new apartment!! I can’t wait to see more pictures! A 10 minute commute sounds AWESOME! I think this will be a great new chapter for you! I have been looking for a new place for a while now too and it is HARD to find something that is in my low price range but in an area I want! Fingers crossed I’ll figure it out soon too!

Happy new apartment! Goodness, I have to admit, I’m insanely jealous of this as Ryan and I are struggling to get a spot in Philly that doesn’t disappear within 10 minutes of availability!!
But, I figure since I was once jealous of y’all’s bikes, and won a bike…. maybe that envy will bring me luck with an apartment!!
Looks perfect and comfy.
