Last week I put a call out on Facebook for New York suggestions. One of my sorority sisters, Ilana, recently moved to NY (and is back in SF for the summer BTW), so she quickly emailed me a detailed list with “some really well researched suggestions based on meal times” <– HAHA LOVE THAT!

College life smiles

Brunch was the first meal category “because no one eats breakfast” LOL – seriously Ilana, your email made me giggle. I thought that because I was inside all day at this training, I wouldn’t find time for a proper brunch, but today I “went for it” and rushed uptown to Sarabeth’s South Central Park, a New York institution, if you will.

To the New York Public Library….

And up 5th Avenue….

Past St. Patrick’s Cathedral (yo, facelift!)….

By Trump Tower….

To a street-side table for one at….

My only mistake: ordering coffee. Overpriced. Not that good.

Brunch pick: The Red Omelette – chunky red pepper and tomato sauce, cheddar cheese, dollop of sour cream, chives with pumpkin muffin & strawberry preserves

The guts….

Thoughts: I liked the omelette, but I probably would have loved the Fat and Fluffy French Toast. I didn’t order a”sweet breakfast” because of, well, the “fat and fluffy” part. Plus, I want ice cream later. #balance. This was definitely my first omelette with tomato sauce. Side note: why am I on such a tomato kick these days?

Anywho… Sarabeth’s is more than just the food, it’s 75% experience. What originated in 1981 as a love for jam, Sarabeth’s grew to nine locations and a wholesale-retail bakery and cafe. The Central Park location is absolutely gorgeous… It’s across the street from the south end of Central Park, steps away from the Plaza Hotel. The pastel pink and mint green walls, wicker chairs, and black and white photos from NY’s yesteryear set a posh mood.

Thank you for the recommnedation, Ilana!

p.s. she also recommended Yuca Bar and Essex as great brunch spots in New York!

Question: When you have a “social” question, where do you usually post it? Facebook, Twitter, Google+, ….?? I’ve tried posting questions on Twitter, but usually nobody responds. It’s like a cricket field. I get better results on Facebook!

  1. Yay for Sarabeths! I had brunch there when I was in NY in January too! Though I did spring for the french toast (my photo shoot was over so I was treating myself!) and it was FABULOUS! Sorry your food experience wasn’t stellar! And I try and ask on twitter too but same thing- no one usually responds! Hate that!

It’s gotta be a timing thing…. Maybe if I kept twitter open at work all day long…. #nothappening haha

  2. How was the pumpkin muffin? It looks solid.

In other news, I’m headed to NYC next weekend! Mostly to see No Doubt, but I GUESS I could eat, too.
