Krizia’s Roller Disco Birthday
Posted by Lauren
Hullo! Time to tell you all a story about Thursday, August 16th! What a great day. :) My day started out with an offsite for our group in the SF office.
Breakfast and lunch catered by Specialty’s…
presentations on presentations on presentations
mini cupcakes!
…and a mini red velvet before my analytics spiel.
Afterwards we hit up Zare at Fly Trap for food and drinks.
Their cocktail menu was very impressive. I instantly sent a picture message to Katie asking for guidance since she is the cocktail queen. I found the Miveh Mule very intriguing… so I went with that! The mediterranean-inspired Moscow Mule had silver tree vodka, lime, seasonal fruit syrup, peach bitters, and ginger beer.
Delish!
Among all the food we ordered, my favorite of the night were these pistachio meatballs with red harissa, honey, and pomegranate.
Eventually I found myself at Krish’s place near Polk Street getting ready for a roller disco in honor of her birthday!
Earlier in the week, my coworker mentioned the $5 roller disco event at San Francisco’s Mighty. With an additional $5 for skate rental, this seemed like a brilliant way for Krizia to ring in the big ol’ 2-5. Krizia pops up a lot on the blog, but in case you’re new around here, we went to high school and college together, danced together, lived together… #bff status. Love the girl.
It’s the best disco in town, number one in disco sound
It’s the place where hip people meet, hey, hey
It’s the best disco in town, bump and boogie all around
It’s no place to sit in your seat, hey, hey
DJ’s are the best there, you’ll never get a rest there
You may meet the right girl or guy
When they play the right groove your body makes the next move
Get up on the floor and get down to see that the music can take you high
It’s the best disco in town, funky music pound for pound
Join the crowd, come on dance and sing, hey, hey
It’s the best disco in town, people come from miles around
It’s the place to do your own thing, hey, hey
People dress the best there, the music is the best there
They’re the very best sounds, so high class
If you make a request the DJ will do his best
To lay down your favorite song so you or baby hold on the past
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
The disco was ahmazing. The people, the outfits, the roller skating, the disco balls, the fog machine, the music… Back in the day, when I first started to drive, I listened to a three-disc, 70s disco mix NONSTOP. (And Ashlee Simpson. But that’s besides the point.) That being said, I knew almost every single word to the Gloria Gaynor, Wild Cherry, Donna Summer, etc, etc songs the DJ picked.
Our group certainly brought the funk! A few people wore wigs, some chose three-piece suits, and Kevin even brought a flashy disco sword for Krizia to play with on the roller rink.
But all good things come to an end, musn’t they? Around 11 pm I lost my balance and fell forwards, catching myself with my right arm. Instantly I was in a lot of pain and rushed to the bathroom. The birthday girl and her coworker checked on me and encouraged me to come back out for some ice. I took it easy the rest of the night, with my skates off, and vowed to see the doctor the following morning. Everyone was so helpful and made me feel a lot better, so thank you!
I saw the doctor Friday morning and he confirmed that I had a distal radius fracture. They put a temporary cast on me, the real one goes on Monday! Surreal.
Krizia, the considerate gal that she is, stopped by this afternoon with a get well soon card, sunflowers, a robot flower, and a fantasy football mag I should to study before our draft next weekend! Such a sweetheart!
For Krizia’s birthday a few friends got together to make her a video. Since she is always making awesome videos FOR US, we needed to make one FOR HER. Fran did a spectacular job putting it together, and here it is for your viewing pleasure:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRIZIA!!!!!
Question: When is the last time you went roller skating? Have you broken any bones ever?

Yay for Specialties catering and are those Kara’s cupcakes?? YUM! That restaurant looks great too and despite not really being a meatball person, that sauce looks fantastic! What a fun birthday event too to go to a Roller Disco! I love it! But OMG I’m so sorry about your arm! That must have been so painful :( :( I hope it feels better very soon!! xo
