Two Dates: Steak Out and Dish Dash

I had a date on Tuesday. And a date on Wednesday. With different people. Shhh don’t tell Kyle. ;)

On Tuesday, Kyle and I met up after work for dinner in downtown Mountain View. We spent a few minutes walking up and down Castro evaluating our options. Japanese, Indian, Mexican…..? As we crossed the street to look back at our options, we saw the new Steak Out: Biergarten (383 Castro Street).

Our decision came quickly: beer and, well, something to eat alongside the beer.

I chose the Mad River Steelhead. What a delicious 1/2 liter that was!

We headed outside to enjoy the warm weather. Funny thing is that they didn’t have the Franziskaner Weissbier advertised on all the umbrellas…

Kyle’s beer choice was….? Something dark.

We split a spinach and chicken salad – marinated mushrooms, tomatoes, avocado, hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese, bacon, slaw vinaigrette. Next time, vinaigrette on the side.

The salad was massive! Good thing, too, because the other item we split, the Gobbler Burger – pasture raised ground turkey, iceberg lettuce, tomato, jalapeño-cucumber raita – was a little on the small side.

The turkey patty was dry, but their housemade potato brioche bun was pretty tasty. After dinner, we popped into Therapy to look at cool furniture and tchotchkes.

We finished the night with a cup of froyo from Yogurtland in Palo Alto!
Sweet ending to date night…

On Wednesday, I had my second date… with two lovely ladies from my past. I met my middle school pals – Meredith and Sophia – at DishDash in downtown Sunnyvale.

I ordered the Tabsi – seasoned minced lamb and beef topped with a thick sauce of eggplant, onions, peppers, tomatoes seasoned with garlic, mild curry and dry lime, served with rice. It was extremely filling!

It was so great catching up with both of them. Meredith just moved back to the Bay Area from Seattle and she is a member of our all-girls fantasy football league. Hopefully more middle school folks can join us next month!

p.s. I went to Target before heading home and guess who I randomly ran in to?!
