Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I am in one of my favorite places – San Luis Obispo! While Nicole is off running the glamorous Nike Women’s Half Marathon, I’m preparing to run the City to the Sea Half Marathon that goes from SLO to the ocean! Can’t wait…
This morning I woke up and walked to Starbucks for a grande coffee with a pump of pumpkin spice.
After packing up the car, Kyle and our friends, Chris and Susannah, hit the road. We chatted about oil and gas prices, nutrition, house remodeling, the VP debate – I love road trip discussions!
First stop, Kona’s Deli (just like last trip lol):
I went with the turkey, again, and it hit the spot. We got back in the car and headed to Montaña de Oro, a state park in Los Osos/Morro Bay. Kyle loves to mountain bike, so this trip down was 1/2 about my race and 1/2 about him revisiting his favorite trails. (Chris and Susannah are pro cyclists and they were game to join us!)
The three of them set off on a steep trail and I went for a leisurely walk/hike/run. I thought about my trips to Montaña de Oro while in college. Namely, a cute hike ‘date’ when Kyle and I first started dating… He led the way to a beautiful ocean viewpoint with a rustic bench and had sandwiches from Kona’s.
My first visit, however, was at the butt crack of dawn, October of freshman year, for a biology class trip to the tide pools. (Remember Katie and Kerry?? And Vulture girl?? :) So fun. So tired.)
It was beautiful out!
After their mountain bike ride, we drove a few minutes to a different trailhead and walked to a sand dune/bluff and ran down to the beach!
Hotel check-in > Showers > Downtown + Dinner!
Question: Do you mountain bike? Where’s your favorite place to go hiking? Mountain biking scares the bejeezus out of me – loose gravel, rapid turns, lightning fast downhill portions. Nuhh Uhh.
