WIAW 11/7: Time to Vote

N: Okay guys, it’s time to get selective here. Lauren and I decided on Election Morning (Tuesday) that we would both participate in WIAW and let you all choose whose WIAW looks better. I think it’s unfair because I’m a poor college student and I tend to eat the exact.same.things. every day. She gets much more creative with her daily eats.

N: I’ll go first. Tuesday was a really productive day- I woke up before 8 (early for this girl!), did my laundry, studied for my midterm, went to class, VOTED!, struggled through my midterm, unfortunately had to skip dance practice, watched the election results, and went to the gym.

L: Ok, I guess I’ll go second. Basically I woke up, got my red/white/blue election outfit on, voted at the local fire station, and drove to work. Then I realized my computer was at home. D’oh! 10 minutes later I was back at work typing away (love my nonexistent commute). Work, eat, work, eat… work until 8 pm. I’ll go to the gym after I post this?

N: Here are my meals:

  • Breakfast: some unpictured frozen grapes right when I woke up (I needed food before taking cold medicine); a big bowl of oat bran with a banana, cinnamon, vanilla greek yogurt, and almond milk
  • Snack: Luna Fiber bar before class; coffee after class

  • Lunch: 1 egg, 3/4 cup egg whites, cauliflower, carrots, onion, and topped with light marinara; pear; iced oatmeal raisin Clif Z bar
  • Dinner: romaine lettuce, balsamic dressing (most boring “salad” ever- the sorority house was out of food by the time I got there)
  • Dessert: vanilla greek yogurt, a banana, cinnamon, and a big dollop of peanut butter… and a few more spoonfuls of PB ;)

L: And here are mine:

  • Breakfast: unpictured oat bran with banana slices and a scoop of TJ’s chocolate whey protein powder
  • Snack: Reese’s pb cup and cinnamon tea with a splash of milk
  • Lunch: Taco Tuesday! We get Mexican food catered every Tuesday, so I enjoyed a plate of salad, rice, beans, salsa, guac, chicken + carne asada
  • Snacks: new-to-me pumpkin bar from Trader Joe’s. I’m switching it up from the Nutrigrain bars I’ve had on hand for 5 months! also, a red delicious apple

  • Snack: Ugh. Stupid work candy bowl and zero will power. I don’t want to talk about it.
  • Dinner: quinoa fried rice with chicken + egg; added pumpkin curry leftover from a conference room (I am resourceful, not desperate)
  • Dessert: my 2nd orange of the day!

Two weekends ago, while at Natalie’s house celebrating her quick trip home, a brilliant idea came to me… since Natalie’s mom Cindy is such a fabulous cook, baker, and hostess, why don’t Sarah and I politely invite ourselves over one day a month to enjoy her company (and Mike’s!) over some delectable food? Thankfully Cindy agreed to the arrangement and we arbitrarily picked the 5th of every month. The inaugural Ole-Yo-Hun dinner fell on the 5th of November. Just thinking about that date gets this jingle stuck in my head

(I think I should re-watch V for Vendetta…. can’t remember if it’s scary or historical or a thriller….)

Anywho, I woke up EARLY (as in before 6 am) to get into work and finish up a project. I rewarded myself for actually getting up when my alarm started ringing by stopping at Starbucks.


Coffee with pumpkin spice and petite vanilla scones (semi celebration of National Donut Day – at least it was according to Instagram).

For lunch I heated up a pile of my quinoa fried rice… Next time I might need a bigger serving, because 2-5 PM dragged on. I dove into our office candy jar far too many times. Drats. I blame you, Halloween.


I did my best not to spoil dinner with office snacks, because I had Cindy’s amazing home-cooked dinner to look forward to!


Everything was SO DELICIOUS!

  • chicken parmesean (possibly my favorite)
  • mushroom and artichoke pasta
  • roasted romanesco cauliflower
  • homemade bread!!!!!!!!
  • salad + water + wine


I wish I snapped a photo of the chicken parm – it was ridiculously good. Marinara sauce, cheese, and warm breaded chicken is a delicious combination. Maybe I should try that for next week’s lunches?

The fresh slices of homemade bread were another favorite at the dinner table… Cindy has so much food knowledge and it was really interesting to hear about the bread making process. She made the low maintenance bread in a dutch oven, a technique popularized by Jim Lahey. She claims it was an easy process, you just have to adhere to the timeline and never put the dough in the refrigerator.


I might give his recipe a go over Thanksgiving!

After dinner, I was more than ready to enjoy a slice of APPLE PIE!


We each enjoyed a slice a la mode, with vanilla bean ice cream! Perfect :)


While conference calling Natalie (she is back in LA), Sarah and I turned into “vultures” and attacked the pie once again. Let’s just say that the pan is now empty and we each took home a small slice…. you do that math.


THANK YOU CINDY!! Can’t wait for Ole-Yo-Hun dinner #2!

On my way home I stopped by the work gym. I zoned out for 40 minutes while completing walking hill intervals and then hopped on the stationary bike for 30 minutes.


I tried to finish my scheduled strength training workout, but ran out of time and interest. I’ll finish the other half tomorrow! Please note that I WON fantasy football again this week! I moved from 12th place in week 3 to 2nd place in week 10. Doug Martin put me at unfair advantage with over FIFTY POINTS, but in the end it was neck and neck with Jamie. Lucky for me, Drew Brees threw 2 TDs and I beat Jamie by just 1 point! :) That is another $10 in my pocket. SCORE.

All in all, a great start to the week and it is only going to get better – I will be visiting Nicole this weekend!! <3
