A Mile a Day…

Today has been a pretty good day so far. My morning started with some apples and carrots + PB and a small bowl of oatmeal, and then I headed to Day 3 of dance team hell week. Ok, that’s a slight exaggeration. Our 3 hour practices are actually pretty fun!

After practice today, I went to Subway with three of my team buddies because we had buy one get one free 6″ sandwich coupons. I got a veggie delight on wheat and it hit.the.spot (something I rarely would say about Subway). A giant 32 oz. lite lemonade on the side was perfectly refreshing.


The rest of my day was filled with sitting around, watching Rules of Engagement on Netflix, snacking, taking a random 2 hour nap (oops), and finally heading to the gym to run.

WORKOUTS! I haven’t talked about those in a while!

Since January 1st, I wanted to try and run at least one mile a day. I’m good at tricking myself into “just doing something for 10 minutes,” and once I’m at the gym, I end up doing more. Does that make sense?

Anyways, January workouts thus far:

Tuesday, January 1

  • PM: 9 mile hike with my mom and David (ran 6 of the miles)

Wednesday, January 2

  • AM: 2 mile run, cable chest flies, tricep pull downs, cable crossovers, lateral cable rows
  • PM: 3 hr dance practice

Thursday, January 3

  • AM: 3.1 mile run, 4 mile incline walk
  • PM: danced at basketball game vs. Stanford

Friday, January 4

  • PM: 2 mile run, 1 mile incline walk, arms/oblique dips

Saturday, January 5

  • AM: 4 mile run
  • PM: danced at basketball game vs. Cal

Sunday, January 6

  • PM: 2 mile run (really had to force myself to do this)

Monday, January 7

  • AM: 3 hr dance practice
  • PM: 1.6 mile run

Tuesday, January 8

  • AM: 2 hr dance practice
  • PM: broke my streak!!! I was feeling pretty worn down from the night before…..

Wednesday, January 9

  • AM: 3 hr dance practice
  • PM: 3.5 mile run

And I just finished up this little bowl of broccoli and mushrooms sautéed with fresh garlic and with some panang curry sauce for flavor. Kind of random, but it did the trick. I need to get used to eating more meals at my apartment because all the dining out is costing me too much money$$$$$.

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day of “hell week” and I have some exciting plans for the rest of the day. After practice, I’m driving with dance friends down to San Diego for Hip Hop Night at the House of Blues. I think our practices this week have been preparing us to bust a MOVE.

Note: I realize that running a mile a day is not smart because rest days are important and also when you run every day, it’s easy to lose motivation. ALSO, days off make you miss running, and running every day ruins that idea. This is sort of working for me because I’m not currently training for a race (other than the looming Rock ‘n Roll Pasadena Half Marathon on Feb. 17, but I’m just running that for fun).

Question: How do you motivate yourself to get a workout in most days?

    That’s so many miles.

    Then again, my goal most times I run is “PLEASE at least run one mile” so probably do-able. I’m impressed by your streak post-NYD, because during that time, my “streak” was one of loafing. And eating everything. It was very successful.
