Today was a blur… and neither of us really want to talk about it. So I’ll talk about yesterday. When we had yet another “farewell” Happy Hour for a coworker. Joe is so awesome and will be greatly missed. Who will chuck candy bars at my mug filled with coffee? Who will steal my quarters for vending machine soda?

Our group met after work at a place in downtown Mountain View for shared appetizers and fun drinks.

Xanh acts like a nightclub in the middle of Googland – dark lounges, a waterfall wall, steel blue lighting. I’m not sure who they cater to, but I was really distracted by the staff’s inappropriate outfits.

I picked their Xangria (pun!) and followed up with a pint of Racer 5 IPA (not pictured – that’s Joe’s Arrogant Bastard).

Regardless, their Vietnamese cuisine inspired happy hour menu (which lasts til 6:30) was awesome: spring rolls, beef and chicken satays, potstickers, kobe beef street tacos, wings… Easy to share and crazy flavorful. My favorite: the jalapeño popcorn chicken!

After the tears goodbyes, I went with my coworker Aman to a Mediterranean restaurant across the street. He missed the majority of Xanh food since he showed up late. We chatted, he ate food, and then I decided I was still hungry, so I went to Yogurtland in Palo Alto.

Sometimes we all need a big, comforting bowl of frozen yogurt. Maybe I’ll get another bowl tonight. Ooph.

Question: What’s your comfort food of choice?

  1. The Googland part made me laugh :) Lately my comfort food of choice has been popping a huge bowl of popcorn, drizzling a bit of melted butter on top and then dumping dark chocolate chips on it. Perfect salty/sweet combination. Also gelato. But gelato is more of an essential food group not so much a comfort food.

I was obsessed with nighttime popcorn a few months ago, but I think I overdid it and now I’m back on the nighttime cereal snacking train. Gelato is heavenly. I really want to get a pint of the mint you recommend so highly!
