It is so great to be able to post again! I’ve been meaning to blog about a few things and the WordPress update was killing meeeee. Good thing I have a smart sister that came to the rescue and fixed the problems! Speaking of, it’s due time we talk about her 26th birthday night.
We had a few options for dinner, but ultimately decided on Amber India Restaurant in Santana Row. David had raved about this restaurant a few times and even gave us gift cards last Christmas so we could try it ourselves. He has great taste, because this place sure was good. The dining area was a little packed, but it was a Friday night after-all and the waiter made sure to make us feel like Lauren’s birthday was a priority! We couldn’t have asked for better service.
The old folks started with some beer and classy wine…
But went back to their silly ways soon enough…
As for our food, we ordered family style so everyone got a taste of each dish.
Mizuna & Black Figs Salad… with goat cheese, tear drop tomatoes, cumin balsamic vinaigrette
Lahsooni Machi … crisp fried fish, spicy garlic sauce
Crab Kalimiri … blue crab meat, crushed black pepper, ginger, curry leaves
Naan … leavened bread with Garlic & Chives
Baingan Mussallam … baby eggplants stuffed with nuts, chili-tomato & garlic masala
Tandoori Salmon …Atlantic salmon, ginger, homemade garam masala
Nalli Vindaloo …six hour braised Colorado lamb shank, chili vinegar
Lal Mirch Sea Bass …red chili, garlic, cumin, hand pound spices
Balti Gosht …lamb chunks, royal cumin, mint onions and peppers
Though I only tried the salad, eggplant, and naan, I know that everyone at the table loved all the meaty dishes. The lamb shank and its spicy sauce was definitely a hit across the table.
Once we were full it was time for Lauren to open her presents.
It was a fun night and Lauren was happy to be spoiled with gifts and surrounded by family.
Another major kudos to our waiter for offering to take our picture and for bringing over a candle (without us even asking!). What would a birthday be without cake and a birthday wish?
This mini cake was so cute and the perfect size for a few-bite slice.
Then Lauren said goodbye to Kyle and we embarked on part two of the night…
… sister time!
We went to see The Bling Ring because Lauren had been talking about it for a few weeks and it’s always fun to see Hermione in a different role. It was a pretty intense movie and reminded me a lot of the ritzy LA lifestyle I notice at school sometimes.
Happy Birthday again sis! So glad I got to celebrate with you!
