Wassup folks. Raise your hand if you called Nicole 20 minutes ago freaking about your blog being gone forever, started a support forum topic, and then realized there was just a 10 minute server connection problem that fixed itself?
Here’s another story for you: I realized this week that I really need to stop being a lazy turd. Work is the busiest it’s been since, uh, ever. But that doesn’t mean I should stop exercising. I used to look forward to treadmill time, as I was able to catch up on Google Reader (RIP) and watch my favorite shows on Hulu. Why has that stopped, Lauren?! AGES ago, like in college, my friend Sean Bacon told me about this running streak he started. He ran at least a mile for 100 days straight and convinced me that once you get a streak going, it’s less easy to break it.
So that’s what I’m going to do. (Not for 100 days, let’s be real.)
A running streak will also help build up my base for some of the fall races on my schedule. I will try to run 4 miles/day. That calculates out to 1 hour of running/stretching/showering. I can handle 1 hour a day!
Sunday – 4 miles with Krizia in SF after Outside Lands
Monday – I hadn’t yet decided to start the streak LOL…
Tuesday – 4 miles @ 8:29 avg pace. Treadmill at the gym. Streak begins!
Wednesday – 4.5 miles (didn’t wear my Garmin), evening run to Stanford track with Kyle
- 1.7 miles to the track
- 4x up and down a set of stairs
- 200 m lap around track
- Repeat 2 & 3 for a total of 4 laps
- 1.7 miles back to Kyle’s apartment
- DINNER! Sancho’s Taqueria, one of Kyle’s favorites
Thursday – 4 miles @ 7:51 avg pace, morning loop to my gym [short leg workout] and then back home
Oh, also, Thursday evening Nicole and I went to my dad’s for dinner. The whole fam was there: Dad, Lauretta, Steve & Amy, Katie!
BBQ chicken for dinner with rice, salad, and veggies = yum. Dessert stole the show though. That plate ^ ^ has mini cheesecakes, brownie crumbles, balsamic-glazed berries, and whipped cream.
Friday – 6 miles @ 8:35 avg pace, morning loop around my neighborhood
The weather was perfect, but there was one icky part… a possum in the middle of the sidewalk!
This fearless old lady walked right by at as it shook from side to side. The possum was clearly out of it.
The rest of the run was uneventful, but really enjoyable. I’m slowly remembering how running is FUN! #SadButTrue
Saturday – 5 miles @ 8:31 avg pace, Palo Alto to my house in Mountain View
I will probably go for a longer run tomorrow… I’m thinking ~9 miles? Next Sunday I’m running the Santa Rosa Half Marathon. Can’t wait! New-to-me course! Anyone else running that?
Question: What do you think about a running streak? Sean later said that his 100-day streak was “not really impressive, more neurotic and obsessive” haha.
